Seasonal Dining

An excerpt from a promotional brochure for a senior living community.

To make dining appealing and nutritious for our residents, La Paloma incorporates seasonal food into its cuisine. Produce harvested at the peak of freshness and flavor is rich in vital nutrients. It provides essential sensory diversity, exciting the palate, and helps to mark the seasons.

In springtime, our kitchens use herbs picked fresh from our garden. Summer yields crisp salads, cold soups like gazpacho, and refreshing drinks. Autumn calls for rich, satisfying stews, along with hot cobblers and other traditional baked desserts, and winter brings roasted meats, grilled vegetables and hot spiced cider to take away the chill of frosty days. There are holiday favorites too: turkey with dressing and gravy, cranberry sauce and pumpkin pie.

Throughout the year, Southwestern and Mexican dishes add zest to our fare. Sonoran Desert mesquite pods and prickly pear pads, used by Native Americans for centuries, are delicacies occasionally added to our recipes. The chefs at La Paloma also incorporate popular international items into the menu, adding exotic tastes for the enjoyment of our residents and their guests.

About Page

THE WORK:

I create unique, detailed, hand-lettered art for individuals, professionals, businesses and special events.

For businesses, I capture your brand or identity in a visually striking, yet functional, sign that easily and effectively communicates your message. For individuals or special events, I fashion designs that reflect the personality of your home or the occasion.

I'm open to anything your imagination conjures up!

THE PROCESS:

I typically begin a project by gathering information as to desired content, logos and color and font preferences, and then consider physical and budgetary parameters. I spend time looking at the space – whether it's a 5x20 foot wall or a 3x5 inch chalkboard – and let that canvas speak to me. Once it does, I begin the design.

Because each piece is unique, prices will vary. Please feel free to contact me for a complimentary consult.

ME:

I'm from South Carolina, and have a BA in Psychology from Clemson University and a MA in Higher Education from the University of Arizona. My artistic influences include Indian tapestries, henna tattoos, mid 20th century sign painting, vintage 1960s rock posters, art nouveau and art deco.

What I love about my work is that I'm always learning! When clients have ideas for things I've never done, my craft grows. To diversify my range, I continually develop my style and practical sign-making skills. I frequently experiment with new materials and techniques.

I absolutely enjoy it all!

Glen Harbor

A profile for potential investors

Glen Harbor sits high on a bluff with splendid views of the Pacific Ocean. It is an exceptional example of how renovating and expanding a property increases its value and appeal.

This former condominium community was near completion in 2000 when the developer ran out of funds. It was then left vacant for three years. The Benton Group (TBG) purchased the property in 2003 and invested $5 million to resurrect it as an exclusive retirement resort. The company went to great lengths to ensure that the development provided easy access to amenities despite its steep topography. The original 200 units sold quickly. TBG then added 60 assisted living and 60 memory care residences to meet residents' needs for aging in place.

The focal point of Glen Harbor is the three-story assisted-living building with its atrium lobby, comfortable seating areas and fireplace. First floor amenities include a theater and a wellness center, while the second floor has studios and one- and two-bedroom condominiums. The third floor is home to The Lanai dining room, with its panoramic ocean views.

Glen Harbor, once an abandoned condominium development, now sets the standard for assisted living in California.
